MDL Instructor Leasing — Customer Portal Guide
Version 1.0 — June 2026
Welcome to your MDL customer portal. This guide explains every section of the portal so you can manage your lease, upload documents, make payments, and stay on track from enquiry to handover and beyond.
Quick tip: You can access the portal at any time by clicking "Customer Login" on the MDL website. Use the same email address you registered with.
1. Getting Started — Logging In
- Go to the MDL website and click "Customer Login" in the top-right corner.
- Enter the email address and password you set up when invited.
- If you've forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page.
- Once logged in, you'll land on your Dashboard.
If you haven't been invited yet, you'll need to submit an enquiry first or contact MDL directly.
2. Dashboard Overview
Your dashboard is the home base for everything related to your lease. It has two tabs at the top:
- Overview — Shows your order progress, vehicle details, action items, and quick links.
- About You — Your personal details, licence information, and next of kin.
Action Required Banner
If there's anything you need to do (e.g. pay your deposit, upload a document), you'll see an amber or red banner at the top of the Overview tab. Click it to go straight to the relevant page.
Order Progress Tracker
This visual tracker shows which stage your order is in, from "Enquiry Received" all the way to "Vehicle Delivered". The stages are:
- Enquiry Received
- Deposit Paid
- Documents Received
- Vehicle Sourced
- Vehicle Being Prepared
- Dual Controls Fitted
- Insurance Confirmed
- Handover Booked
- Vehicle Delivered
Stat Cards
Four cards show your assigned vehicle, weekly lease price, estimated handover date, and deposit status at a glance.
3. About You & Licence Details
Click the "About You" tab to view and edit your personal information.
Personal Details
- Click "Edit" in the top-right of the Personal Details card.
- Update your date of birth, contact phone, instructor type (ADI / PDI / Not yet qualified), and address.
Licence Details
This section is important for compliance. Please fill in:
- Driving Licence Number — Your DVLA driving licence number.
- Licence Expiry Date — When your driving licence expires.
- ADI / PDI Badge Number — Your ADI or PDI registration badge number.
- ADI / PDI Expiry Date — When your badge is due for renewal.
Important: Keep these details up to date. MDL uses them to ensure your lease and insurance remain valid.
Next of Kin
Provide your next of kin's name, relationship, phone number, and email address.
Saving Changes
The "Save Changes" and "Cancel" buttons appear at the very bottom of the form. Make sure all fields are filled in before saving.
4. Order Tracking & Vehicle Acceptance
Click "Track Your Order" in the Quick Links section (or navigate to the Tracking page) to see a detailed timeline of your order.
Accepting or Declining Your Vehicle
When MDL sources a vehicle for you, it will appear on your dashboard with photos and details. You'll see two buttons:
- Accept Vehicle — Confirms you're happy with the vehicle. Your order moves to the "Vehicle Being Prepared" stage.
- Decline — Opens a text box where you can explain why the vehicle isn't suitable. MDL will then source an alternative.
Tip: Take your time reviewing the photos and specifications before accepting. Once accepted, the order moves forward.
5. Documents
Navigate to the Documents page to upload required paperwork. The document types include:
- Driving Licence
- Proof of Address
- Part 2 Certificate (for PDIs)
- Pink Badge
- Insurance Confirmation
How to Upload
- Click on the document type you need to upload.
- Click "Upload" and select the file from your device (photo or scan).
- Wait for the upload to complete. The status will change to "Uploaded".
- An admin will review and either approve or reject it. If rejected, you'll see the reason and can re-upload.
Important: Make sure photos are clear and all text is readable. Blurry or incomplete uploads may be rejected.
6. Payments
The Payments page shows your weekly lease payment schedule and deposit status.
- Deposit — Shows whether your deposit has been paid.
- Weekly Payments — Lists upcoming and past payments with due dates and status (pending, paid, overdue).
- Standing Order — Shows whether your standing order has been set up.
Tip: Set up a standing order with your bank to avoid missing payments. The payment day is shown on your dashboard.
7. Handover
Once your vehicle is ready, the Handover page will show:
- The confirmed handover date and time.
- The handover location address.
- Any preparation instructions.
You may also need to sign a lease agreement electronically on this page.
8. Vehicle Cover & Maintenance
Vehicle Cover
View your insurance details, MOT status, and road tax information for your leased vehicle.
Maintenance Log
Weekly vehicle checks are important for safety and compliance. On the Maintenance Log page you can record checks for:
- Engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, windscreen washer
- Tyre pressure (all four) and tyre tread
- Headlights, tail lights, indicators, brake lights
- Windscreen wipers, horn, mirrors, dual controls
Enter the mileage at the time of the check, add any notes, and submit. The overall status will be marked as pass, advisory, or fail.
9. Service Bookings
If your vehicle needs an MOT, service, repair, or tyre change, you can request a booking:
- Go to the Service Bookings page.
- Click "New Booking".
- Select the booking type (MOT, service, repair, tyre change, other).
- Choose a preferred date and time.
- Describe the issue or what's needed.
- Submit. An admin will confirm the appointment and send you the garage details.
10. Expenses
If you've paid for fuel, maintenance, cleaning, parking, or tyres for the leased vehicle, you can claim the expense back:
- Go to the Expenses page.
- Click "New Expense".
- Select the category and enter the amount and date.
- Add a description and upload receipt photos.
- Submit. An admin will review and either approve or reject the claim.
11. Incident Reports
If you're involved in an accident, near-miss, breakdown, or the vehicle is damaged, stolen, or vandalised:
- Go to the Incident Report page.
- Fill in the date, time, and location of the incident.
- Select the incident type and describe what happened in detail.
- Note whether injuries were reported or police attended (include reference numbers).
- Add details of any other parties involved (name, phone, vehicle reg, insurance).
- Upload photos of the scene if available.
- Submit. An admin will review and follow up with you.
Important: Report all incidents as soon as possible — ideally within 24 hours.
12. Refer a Friend
Earn a £50 credit for every instructor you refer who goes on to lease a vehicle:
- Go to the Refer a Friend page.
- Enter your friend's name and email address.
- Submit. They'll receive an invitation email.
- When they sign up and place an order, the referral credit is applied to your account.
13. Notifications
The Notifications page shows all your in-app alerts, including:
- Order status updates
- Document review results
- Payment reminders
- Action-required alerts
When you see a notification badge on the bell icon, click it to view new updates.
14. Support
If you need help, go to the Support page where you can:
- Find MDL's contact phone number and email.
- Send a message directly to the MDL team.
- Access the WhatsApp chat button for quick questions.
